WORK DOESN’T DIGINIFY ON STOLEN NATIVE LAND!

WORK DOESN’T DIGINIFY ON STOLEN NATIVE LAND!

ANTI-COLONIAL/ANTI-CAPITALIST/ANTI-AUTHORITARIAN CALL-OUT FOR MAY 1ST
TORONTO: ALLEN GARDENS (Sherbourne and Carleton) @ 5:30PM

****
On May 1st, the world commemorates yet another anniversary of the Haymarket Affair of 1886, in which many dozens of workers lost their lives fighting for the 8 hour work day. This day is now celebrated around the world as International Worker’s Day, a day of remembrance of the struggles endured by wage labourers that continue to be exploited for Capital gains to this day. It is the “celebration” of having no choice but to engage in wage labour (or wage slavery) in order to survive.

As Indigenous Peoples, the idea of the wage system is a foreign colonial construct on our lands and is exploitative by definition. The wage system not only exploits human labour for profit, but also turns the environment, its living beings and the land – our ancient territories – into commodities for the expansion of Capital and the maintenance of the State. It is in this way that the perpetuation of industrial production is based on the plunder on our ancient territories and therefore, the ongoing genocide of our Indigenous Peoples.

It is for this reason that WORK (i.e. wage labour) DOES NOT DIGNIFY ON STOLEN NATIVE LAND. As long as we continue the exploitation of the land, its People and all it inhabitants, we will never be truly free. This May 1st, we will not celebrate our exploitation, but struggle to break the chains that hold us prisoner.

There is no Sheppard without Sheep
“We are against bosses and their companies. Yes, because they overexploit us and they have become wealthy from other’s labour and because they have taken their economic and political power to their advantage. They screw us from all sides. We are against them because they dominate us and seek to continue doing so.

However Capitalism is also a system of social relations; almost always forced relations, but relations nonetheless. In order for our bosses to exist, workers must exist; because there is no such thing as a Sheppard without their sheep.

It is in this way that we are not only against bosses and their cast of lackeys; we are also against those who enthusiastically bear the weight of their chains. We do not necessarily curse the people specifically, but the role of the wage worker; the role of creating more riches everyday that fortifies all those who intend to manage our lives.

We are against the self-denying good slaves; the accomplices. However, we are not just against them; we reject those that contribute to the perpetration of our masters and their order, and knowingly continue to do so. This is critic against my neighbour, my mother, my brother, my friends and comrades; but especially against me, for tolerating this damned condition. A critic for being consoled in a thousand excuses, for being ‘practical;’ in other words, for becoming too much like the reality we seek to end.”
