New Trial Against Wente Winkul Mapu Youth begins this Monday

carcelde-angol-150x105January 19th, 2013

The new trial against Ricardo Nahuelqueo, Eric and Rodrigo Montoya charged with attempted murder and assault against police as well as Estate Lord Juan de Dios Fuentes, will begin this Monday to which the Prosecutor is seeking 22 and 18 year convictions respectively. Nahuelqueo is also being charged with possession of illegal ammunition, for allegedly having cartridge that had already been used through a hunting rifle very common place in rural areas, in contrast with Estate Lords that are immediately associated with being war arms collectors of exclusive use according to law exerted by the Armed Forces and Police.

We should note that Rodrigo and Erick Montoya recently ended a 60 day hunger strike at the end of last year, through which the Chilean Supreme Court ruled for a re-trial and downgrading the charges that the Prosecutor would seek conviction on.

The Mapuche Hunt Continues: Ernesto Chachallao of Yeupeko Arrested

peñi-chachallao.jpegJanuary 17, 2013

After the “Cerro Ñielol Summit” in Temuco, the Chilean State has given its response. Ernesto Chachallao, member of Lof Yeupeko, in Viclun, was arrested plain clothes police officers in the context of the Mapche hunt imposed by the government.

More than 10 days have passed by since the fire that engulfed the house of the usurper/racist Werner Luchsinger and the government in desperation is arresting anyone they can get. This is the case of Peñi [Brother] Chachallao. He was signing into police control under an unrelated charge, with evening curfew, when a numerous plain-clothes police contingent came to his house and arrested him. Unto the threat of raiding his house, where several other people and even children reside, he had no choice but to hand himself in, understanding that he could be linked to a set-up regarding the Lumahue Estate case with this arrest.

The excuse for the arrest was regarding theft at the Santa Rosa Estate in 2012, land usurped by the Settler Rodolfo Luchsinger.

The arrest was carried out by Intelligence officers and functionaries by the Third Division of Padre Las Casas.

The Peñi will face the Temuco Bail Court in the next few hours.

Vania Queipul – Werken of the Autonomous Community of Temucuicui Sentenced

vania-queipulJanuary 16th, 2013

The Autonomous Mapuche Community of Temucuicui informs that the trial against our Werken [Spokesperson] Vania Queipul has finalized. She was accused of public mischief the day that Piñera and his political, media and repressive entourage came to our Territory in October of last year.

Our Werken, the daughter of Lonko [Chief] Victor Queipul, who has been exposed to repression and political persecution since her infancy, was found guilty of the charges against her.

The sentencing date is set for next week, exact day to be confirmed.

We reject this entire scenario of criminalization against those who defend the rights of our Mapuche People in our Wallmapuche (Ancestral Territory).

Incriminating CAM Communiqué Forces Mapuche members of Yeupeko Underground

Puntos FijosJanuary 14th, 2013

Following the publication of a Communiqué by the Arauco Malleco Coordinator (CAM), incriminating Mapuche members of the 2010 Temuco Prison Hunger Strike in at least four deaths throughout Wallmapu (including the Luchsinger-Mackey couple), various Peñi [Brothers] have had to flee from the many police operatives that have been deployed around the vicinity where the Luchsinger Estate Lords settlers died on January 4th, 2013.

These events have been verified by various media sources, such as Radio Bio-Bio on Friday morning, where police have raided the homes of Mapuche Ex-Hunger Strikers and have stationed themselves in the area without having been able to find any of the sought after Mapuche members. Moreover, the media has informed of search and permanent surveillance operatives at the homes of Ex-Hunger Strikers in various areas of Wallmapu.

It is important to note that the various Mapuche members incriminated by the CAM have been acquitted after years of pre-trial detention, even up to three years in some cases where the Prosecution has extended proceedings as long as possible, which therefore justifies the decision to elude these raids; especially considering the “Mapuche Hunt” that this organization has now joined.

The Communiqué in question, signed off by the Arauco Malleco Coordinator and widely distributed, describes an open form of snitching incriminating the deaths of “four innocent people,” against those that participated in the Hunger Strike from Temuco Prison, and who (according to the Communiqué) had negotiated behind closed doors with Minister Larroulet to end the Hunger Strike. The alleged secret negotiation alludes to an open meeting held in Temuco Prison by the Hunger Strikers, with a registry of participants – that is a list of names – that would be those currently sought after by the police as the alleged authors of the deadly attack.

The Communiqué was endorsed by the maximum authority of the CAM [Hector Llaitul] from the El Manzano Prison in Concepcion, through Senator Alejandro Navarro as his spokesperson. The document is of great importance for the investigation given the importance of the informer and therefore his knowledge of alleged dissenting auxiliaries.

Even though there is no investigation on the part of Chilean Justice that clarifies individual involvement in the deaths of the four people alluded in the Communiqué, the CAM has already done so, which is why the local authorities of the Chilean Government have come out to applaud the gesture of this organization.

The incident creates suspicion regarding the real objective behind the surprising transfer of the CAM leader to Concepcion the same day the police investigation and intelligence began on the death of the Luchsinger-Mackays, since up till now the Chilean government has recognized this as a decision taken by police intelligence.

If this was a political vendetta, this was the worse time to do it.

Machi Celestino Córdova Charged under Antiterrorist Law

machi-celestino-cordovaJanuary 12, 2013

Yesterday in Temuco, Bail Court was held to formally charge Machi [Medicine Healer] Celestino Córdova and his brother José Còrdova under the Chilean Antiterrorist Law, holding their heads high with the dignity that is characterized by the Peñi [Brothers] of Lof Yeupeko.

Four charges were laid against the Machi [Medicine Healer], two of which surprised the Defense: 3 of which regard actions of resistance in the Santa Isabel Estate on December 23rd, where the house of usurper and white-supremacist Hernan Trizano member Pio Seco was burned down, and moreover an investigation regarding the fire that resulted in the deaths of the Luchsinger McKay family. The Anti-Mapuche Prosecutor Alberto Chiffelle argued for the charges and the judge authorized the pre-trial detention of Celestino Córdova, on top of a six-month investigation. The Machi risks 15 years in prison to Life in Prison under the Antiterrorist Law.

Meanwhile his brother, José Córdova Transito, was not processed for the arson of the Mansion, nor was he charged under the Antiterrorist Law, since the Judge determined there was lack of evidence to accuse him. Nonetheless, he was charged for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, and was later released on bail.

Outside the Courthouse, a large group of community members gathered from various territories in order to show support to the family of the Peñi [Brothers], being closely surveyed by militarized Chilean Police and constantly harassed by a group of racist settlers that also came to the Court, but to demand the heads of the Peñi [Brothers].

Statement Made by the Family of José and Celestino Córdova Transito

We state and consider that Chilean Justice does not respect the condition of our Machi [Medicine Healer] as a spiritual/ancient authority, being a fundamental pillar for our community and Mapuche People. Therefore we believe that this is a humiliation and injustice for our Machi, an injustice supported by the Chilean State in order to defend the interests of the Estate Lords and corporations, since there has been no serious investigation relating to the incidents, carried out behind closed doors in order to justify their judicial set-ups. It is evident that this is a political trial, in which the Chilean State denies its historic responsibility with our Mapuche People and is focused on a particular incident that does not have anything to do with our Machi Celestino.

We also communicate that our brother José Córdova Trasito, has been released under bail , being accused of possession of an illegal firearm, without direct and concrete evidence that link him to these incidents.

With this we state that the people that accuse us as Terrorist should remember their history some 300 years ago, and then voice their opinion more clearly. We are not immigrants here; we are Mapuche and have lived here for millennia. We should see who are those that came later, and they are the ones that should leave.

Family of José and Celestino Córdova Transito

Communities of Mawizache –Triilwe Territory denounce Chilean State Attack Against School

paco-trapilwe.jpegJanuary 11th, 2013

Public Communique

Unto the attack of our school, we communicate the following to our Mapuche People, and general public opinion:

We denounce the attack as a tool by the Chilean State, through its groups of intelligence to delegitimize our struggle, to take away the support of our brothers, fabricating reasons to repress, raid, beat and imprison our people, and to thereby stop the struggle against the construction of the Airport and the reclamation of lands.

We energetically reject the cowardly attack against our community, since we studied at that school and so do our children; the personnel that work at the school are 90% from the community, as with those that established the school along with its directors.

Unto the state of perplexity that we find ourselves today, we will begin territorial control in order to avoid these events from happening again since those that are in charge of Chilean security in Mapuche Territory are those that come to attack our People. We have two schools in our Territory, as well as community gathering places and cultural/ceremonial centres, where unto this declared war by the Chilean State, we cannot let ourselves be detained and will defend the integrity of our people and homes with strength.

From today onwards, the youth of the community will have the security of the educational establishments in their hands in Trapilhue and Mahuidache, where we will control the entrance of strange vehicles coming into our communities, even if that means confronting militarized Chilean police, since they are the main suspects.

We call on our People to continue resisting and advancing for the reclamation of our rights as the Mapuche Nation.

Police Raid Lof Yeupeko at Gun Point, Forcing People on the Ground

PDI-en-YeupekoJanuary 11th, 2013

During early morning hours on Thursday, Chilean Police carried out violent raids in the area of Yeupeko, in the area of Tres Cerros, rural Padre Las Casas, arresting a Mapuche member, Carlos Huairao Carril, whom was found with two fire arms, for which he used as a night watchman for the Estate Lord and President of the Agriculturalist Entrepreneur Association, Emilio Taladriz.

These violent operatives were carried out with the support of Special Force Unit helicopter that came to lend support to the ground operative in the early hours of the mourning.

The arrest of people with arms which are linked to usurpers of the area is not new. On Friday, January 4th, another person, the watchman of the Luchsinger family was also arrested, and was carrying an unlisted fire arm while surveying the area next to the usurped Estate.

The press as well as the government ignored this serious fact, since the use of firearms by Estate guards are not new for the government. In fact, it has been the very Chilean State that has alienated the landowners to arm themselves in order to continue the usurpation of Wallmapu, and even more seriously, the settlers themselves are the ones to give firearms to their own guards.

In summary, what is clear is the racist attitude of Chilean Police. We know that harassment will continue with more arbitrary and random arrests, but none of that is important to the defenders of the occupation. In the end, someone has to pay and importantly it should be Mapuche.

Clarification on the Acts of Sabotage on Dec 23rd in Wenteche

Pio-seco-y-Chadwick.jpegJanuary 10th, 2013

The Lof [Local Communities] in resistance in the area of Wenteche claims actions of sabotage occurred on December 23rd, 2012 in the Santa Isabel and Temuco Estates “property of the families that conform part of the Power of Estate Lords in the area and are at the same time the political/economic Powers of the Chilean State.”

To our Mapuche Nation in Resistance, public national and international opinion, we state the following:

The events that occurred on December 23rd, 2012 are of public knowledge. That mourning, two mansions were burned belonging to the families that conform part of the Power of Estate Lords in the area and are at the same time the political/economic Powers of the Chilean State. The influence that these families exert over the Chilean State, currently in their own hands, remains clear after the occurrence of these events. The reaction was immediate, symbolized in the visit of Interior Minister Andres Chadwick in our Territories in conflict, currently in the hands of various Estate Lords with support of the Chilean State.

The Courts of Justice are also part of this network, imposing charges against the Mapuche People; especially against Lof in resistance, who battle daily against Estate Lords and transnational corporations based on Mapuche Territory.

Andres Chadwick stated his “hand will not tremble” to repress the Mapuche communities close to the affected Estates; thereby clearly identifying these as a “powerful enemy.”

Some reflections on the previous statement: is this rhetoric corresponding to a State representative that just ratified the 169 Convention of the ILO on Indigenous Peoples? It is in contradiction with a government that internationally declares to respect Human Rights, but daily violates the rights of the Mapuche Nation, shooting against children, pregnant mothers, and elders of our Lof.

We should ask our Mapuche People: Did the hands of representing Ministers of the Chilean State, within the previous Concertacion and current Governments tremble in serving justice against the murderers of ALEX LEMUN, MATIAS CATRILEO, and JAIME MENDOZA COLLIO?  On the contrary, functionaries of the Chilean National Police still currently have impunity of their crimes ratified by the Chilean Supreme Court. Did their hands tremble in serving justice against the murderers of our youth? We remind you of this.

This silence and complicity of the Chilean State unto the violation of fundamental political, social, cultural, and territorial rights – that is the right to survive – give us arguments so that OUR PU LOF CAN APPLY JUSTICE THROUGH THEIR MANY PU WEICHAFE [WARRIORS] IN THE SELF DEFENSE OF OUR MAPUCHE NATION.

It is for this reason that we claim the events that occurred in the Santa Isabel Estate of Lautaro and the Temuco Estate of Padre Las Casas. We claim these actions as part of the application of our own community justice unto the impunity related to the various murders that our Mapuche Nation has suffered, and especially against our pu Weichafe [Warrior] Matias Catrileo, whom fell in struggle for National Mapuche Liberation 5 years ago.

We also point out that the Chilean State is solely responsible for continuation of these events, as they have turned a blind eye to the historic debt that is worsened by the injustice faced by our Mapuche Nation. In any case, we categorically state that this is an action in support of our Peñi [Brothers] on Hunger Strike and the various political prisoners jailed in Angol and Temuco.

Also unto the statements proposed by the powerful agriculturalist PIO SECO, who made reference to the presence of foreigners, we clarify that these actions were carried out by our Pu Weichafe [Warriors] that make part of the self defense of our Mapuche Nation and do not receive any foreign instruction or resources. Our Lof are economically, politically and socially self-sufficient and exert self-finance of our own Autonomous project dating back centuries in the history of our now occupied Nation. However, we are also in solidarity with our indigenous sisters and brothers across the continent and with the oppressed peoples of the world.

Regarding the arrest of our Peñi [Brother] ELISEO ÑIRRIPIL for illegal possession of fire arms, we point out that this act demonstrates the ill intentions of the Chilean State to incriminate our brothers in order to continue the persecution through judicial set-ups and undergo a long period of pretrial detention without further evidence of guilt. This is in contradiction with the example of a current member of the Hernan Trizano Comando JORGE TREMER, whom was discharged and released without going to trial after having been found with weapons of war and grenades, taking advantage of his position as a powerful agricultural Estate Lord. He later stated that the weaponry was to be used against members of the Mapuche Nation in the path to Liberation.

Unto these events, we call out to our Mapuche People to not let themselves be detained by the persecuting policies of the Chilean State; to resist the annexation and plunder of our territories with ancient dignity, intelligence and wisdom. Our call out is simple:

For National Mapuche Liberation!

For the Application of Mapuche Community Justice!

Estate Lords, Transnational Forestry, Mining and Tourist Corporations OUT OF WALLMAPU!

Free Our Mapuche Political Prisoners!

Mapuche member of Lof Yeupeko arrested in Violent Raid

YuepecoJanuary 9th, 2013

This Wednesday morning a second Mapuche was arrested after the fire that destroyed the house of usurper Werner Luchsinger (whom died in the fire together with his wife) in the Estate of Palihue, within the context of the Mapuche hunt carried out by the Chilean police forces in Mapuche Territory.

During the 6AM violent raid, police arrested José Córdoba, the brother of Machi Ceferino Còrdova [the first accused in the arson case] in Yeupeko, Vilcun. First reports indicate that the Brother was submitted to brutal torture in order to inform the names of other Peñi [Brothers] that would compose the list of alleged suspects for Chilean Intelligence.

Due to the fact that the Mapuche community member is being charged under the Antiterrorist Law, his arrest was exempt from proper detention controls, being immediately transferred to the Penetentiary Centre of Temuco. Formal charges will be laid in Court this Friday, together with his brother.
