Machi [Medicine Healer] Celestino Córdova in critical state due to incarceration

celestino-300x208May 15th, 2013

Public Communique

The family, friends and acquaintances of our Machi [Medicine Healer] Celestino Cordova feel the necessity to communicate the critical state of physical and spiritual health in which he finds himself, due to incarceration of political prison.

At the same time we therefore denounce the undignified and inhumane treatment that he and his visiting family have had to face.

The details of events are as follows:

  • Due to the Machi’s incarceration in January and post transfer to Temuco Prison, his family and friends had negotiated with the Warden wherein they would be made aware of any case of illness and facilitate his family and other traditional authorities to take care of his physical and spiritual health on the basis of various international agreements signed by the Chilean State in relation to Indigenous Peoples and the understanding that Western medicine lacks competency to evaluate ailments of spiritual well being.
  • On May 10th, 2013, Machi Celestino had one of the worst crisis from spiritual weakness, unto which the Gendarmerie evaluated the situation as an act of rebellion, since he lacked the strength to stand on foot and did not respond to their questions, and thereby threatened with tying him up and taking him to solitary confinement as punishment for his behaviour; action which was stopped by other Mapuche Political Prisoners.
  • Gendarmerie did not acknowledge this agreement carried out with the family, and were moreover completely ignorant and idle unto the Machi’s situation.
  • Once his family came to the Gendarmerie to state the health of Celestino, the guards denied them initial visiting access, making them wait more than usual. Once they could enter the premises, a few guards proceeded to state racist insults to the family members.
  • That same day came another Medicine Healer that could not stabilize Celestino. The next day his family, and two healers were able to enter the premises who managed to stabilize the Machi’s delicate condition, agreeing with the Gendarmerie to communicate if his condition worsened.
  •  We would also like to refer to the statements made by the regional Chief of Gendarmerie, Carlos Cortez, on Sunday May 12th in the El Mercurio newspaper regarding Celestino, whom “has had no health problems and if he did, has not demonstrated as such,” clearly stating that that he had no idea what was happening with the Gendarmerie in Temuco, showing his incompetence considering that Temuco is the major penal centre in the region and that Celestino had a similar episode previously where he fainted twice

  • We thank all those that have shown their concern for our Machi Celestino Cordova. We also call out to demonstrate unto these types of situations, since some other Machi have stated, he will be in a critical state while his spirit is incarcerated. We therefore call out any type of action of solidarity and support to all Mapuche Political Prisoners and especially with the Machi detained in Temuco and Osorno. We hold the Chilean State responsible unto any decay in the state of health of our traditional spiritual leaders.

Freedom and Honour for Celestino Cordova!

WCCC Concludes Kelly Pflug Back’s Cross Klanada Speaking/Book Tour

Kelly Pflug Back's Cross Klanada Tour copy The WCCC [Toronto] concludes Kelly Pflug Back’s Cross Klanada speaking/book tour, which we made public during the Montreal event at La Belle Epoque social centre, due to urgent legal matters we need to attend which do not allow us to continue the coordination of the tour.

Our initial goal as an organization was to coordinate the tour dates for Toronto, Montreal and Victoria, with our active participation within the first two locations. Any inquiries on other dates and schedules for future book launches and speaking events should be directed towards Kelly Plug Back and we wish her all the best in her future organizing and endeavors.

Thank you to all those that have supported the organization of this tour from coast to coast.

Statement by Silvana Captured by the $hilean State in Temuco on March 28th

I want to give my energy [Newen] to all those who know me, care and are concerned over our current situation.

First I want to thank the affection and unconditional support of my mother, my beloved son, brothers, family, the many comrades and friend with which we find ourselves and recognize daily, sharing the most beloved thoughts, ideas, creations in every moment, in every place where we develop ourselves to carry out the possible and the impossible of every reality of a dignified, honest and free life.

The deprivation of my freedom and that of my comrades in Temuco prison, is clearly framed within a set-up, this time framed by the recognized anti-Mapuche Prosecutor, and now persecutor of ideas, Miguel Angel Velazquez.

On March 28th at around 5 AM, two houses were raided in Temuco by the Special Police Forces, with a verbal order for the alleged placement of explosive artifacts in both cases.

The result of the raid where I was found resulted in the destruction of the property, confiscation of computers, cell phones, cameras, money among other things. At the end of the operative, we were informed that the reason for our arrest was for “drug trafficking.” We were taken to the regional hospital of the city to report injuries, later they transferred us to the 8th Police Division, where we were held together with the 10 other arrested and were not allowed to use the washroom for more than 30 hours from 5AM to 10 AM the next day approximately, denying us water including one of the arrestees that is 5 months pregnant.

During this extensive arrest/capture we were unable to communicate via telephone with Counsel, family and friends, and have not been able to exert that right arrestees even now. I should point out that the police have violated my rights at 8 Division by forcefully taking a sample of blood without my consent, and was thereby violated, cuffed and forced by four Special Force police officers (two women and men respectively) to carry out due proceedings.

Today March 30th, I find myself together with two comrades charged with “explosive artifacts,” sharing a range with 48 other prisoners of the capitalist system. After the Bail Court appearance, they also charged us with “marihuana trafficking” (100 grams that can be sold to 400 people) and therefore, three months of investigation in pre-trial prison. These practices are old in discrediting and exposing morbid images to the mass media in order to deviate from the political persecution at hand and impose it as common crime.

I find myself at ease, the rest of the female prisoners have given us a warm welcome in solidarity, from a cup of tea, personal hygiene utensils, clothing, conversations, much joy and despite the circumstances we continue to dream; even despite the many months and years of this eternal enclosure, they continue to be beautiful, free and crazy!

I leave you with these words until my next letter. I remain here on the other side of the wall together with the rest, with my spirit stronger than ever, strengthening my resolve, dreaming of this with every eye of tenderness.

We will see each other soon, all my love and hugs to my son, mother, brothers, grandmother, family in general, Wenui, Lamnien [Sisters], comrades and friends.

PEWKAYAL!

FREEDOM IS THE CRIME THEY PERSECUTE!

Greetings in rage!

Today March 30th, 2013, after the raid to the PANDEMIA Social Space/other homes and imprisonment of 5 comrades, the individuals that comprise the Pandemia Social Centre state the following:

  1. We denounce the Chilean State and those who benefit of the persecution, reprisal and incarceration of those who position ourselves as dissidents of power and authority. We discard victimization as a propaganda tool, clearly stating that we are neitherguilty or innocent, simply the result of years of persecution against those that struggle.
  2. We clarify that we denied our identity as a tool in order to face the guardians of order at the Police Division, since they did not ask for our identifications at the space and were quickly taken to the Police Division. We denounce the theft of computers, books, pen drives, cell phones, sweaters, underwear, a tape recorder, small camping stove with butane gas and its pots, socks, shoes, sneakers, memory cards, tobacco, notebooks, agendas and $70.000 CLP in total.
  3. We denounce the political/judicial/media setup in commemoration of the Day of the Young Combatant.

-          Political: Since the government in its frame of exemplification and deterrence has invented enemies and punishment, with the intention to maintain social peace and the order of the powerful.

-          Judicial: Since the failure of the $hilean Anarchist Bombs Case, and in consideration of the repressive context in the area, the Prosecutors and Attorney General’s office do not cease in their search and imprisonment of those who confront the State and its Laws.

-          Media: Since historically the bourgeois press has been the exclusive tool of the powerful at the moment of criminalization, persecution and imprisonment of comrades.

  1. Lastly, we call out to all those in affinity with us for solidarity with the captured comrades by the prison system, understanding that the 5 are imprisoned under various charges within the same setup. We state that we will be unyielding in the propagation of ideas/practices that lead us to reclaim our lives, despite the continued harassment and surveillance of the shit police.

TORONTO, MARCH 9TH: “Weichan! In Times of War… Destroy the Patriarchical Prison System!”

8PM @ The Graduates Students Union at the University of Toronto, 16 Bancroft Avenue

Hosted by the WCCC [Toronto]

The history of women has been plagued with humiliations and scorn on the part of various systems of slavery and submission that have existed. Domination, colonialism and violence have always been unleashed on the bodies of women – and with it the earth – as part of the structural patriarchy that has continued the rape, plunder and genocide of the land and its indigenous peoples. The prison system is the vivid expression of this structural violence – forcing all those who refuse to submit to the colonial norms to submit their bodies and their lives to the will of power and capital. However, much resistance has risen from the depth of this brutality.

This International Women’s Day, we have nothing to celebrate and everything to fight back.

WE DENOUNCE THE STRUCTURAL VIOLENCE OF THE JUDICIAL/PRISON SYSTEM ON OUR COMMUNITIES IN RESISTANCE AGAINST COLONIALISM, CAPITALISM & PATRIARCHY ON THIS STOLEN LAND!!

WE DENOUNCE THE USE OF FEMALE COPS USING ISSUES OF VIOLENCE TO INFILTRATE AND IMPRISON OUR SISTERS AND BROTHERS!!

DOWN WITH THE PRISON SYSTEM! FREE OUR POLITICAL PRISONERS!!

They may imprison our bodies, but they can never imprison our desire to struggle; to be free.

Police Arrest Members of Mapuche Support Network in Lake Lleu Lleu

February 1st, 2013

At around 8pm on Friday, the Chilean Special Police forces (PDI) carried out various operatives in the are of Puerto Choque and Ranquilhue, in the region of Tirua, arresting at least 3 people and their young children.

Emilio Berkoff and Pegy Bocaz, both members of the Mapuche Support Network of Temuco were arrested together with their 3 and 1 year old children, along with another adult and a 15 year old youth, according to friends in the area.

According to this information, the four youth and the young ones had been arrested in a pickup truck in Greater Ranquilhue. It was not until the late hours of the night that their location was finally known. Nonetheless, according to the website SoyChile, only one woman was arrested and taken to the Police Division in Cañete, charged in relation to actions of sabotage in the area.

That information involves a Settler police collaborator by the name of José Santos Jorquera, whom had denounced alleged threats, which led to the subsequent arrests according to SoyChile.

Generalized Attack

This armed attack took place after yet another police assault in Rio Bueno, where two Machi [Medicine Healers] and another 4 Mapuche were arrested, on top of the convicting sentences against three youth from Wente Winkul Mapu in Ercilla.

All of this within the offensive strategy of the Chilean State against the growing Mapuche movement for territorial reclamation in Wallmapu, expressed through the occupation of Large landed estates and action of sabotage that seek the expulsion of big forestry and agricultural corporations in Mapuche territory.

New Trial Against Wente Winkul Mapu Youth begins this Monday

carcelde-angol-150x105January 19th, 2013

The new trial against Ricardo Nahuelqueo, Eric and Rodrigo Montoya charged with attempted murder and assault against police as well as Estate Lord Juan de Dios Fuentes, will begin this Monday to which the Prosecutor is seeking 22 and 18 year convictions respectively. Nahuelqueo is also being charged with possession of illegal ammunition, for allegedly having cartridge that had already been used through a hunting rifle very common place in rural areas, in contrast with Estate Lords that are immediately associated with being war arms collectors of exclusive use according to law exerted by the Armed Forces and Police.

We should note that Rodrigo and Erick Montoya recently ended a 60 day hunger strike at the end of last year, through which the Chilean Supreme Court ruled for a re-trial and downgrading the charges that the Prosecutor would seek conviction on.

The Mapuche Hunt Continues: Ernesto Chachallao of Yeupeko Arrested

peñi-chachallao.jpegJanuary 17, 2013

After the “Cerro Ñielol Summit” in Temuco, the Chilean State has given its response. Ernesto Chachallao, member of Lof Yeupeko, in Viclun, was arrested plain clothes police officers in the context of the Mapche hunt imposed by the government.

More than 10 days have passed by since the fire that engulfed the house of the usurper/racist Werner Luchsinger and the government in desperation is arresting anyone they can get. This is the case of Peñi [Brother] Chachallao. He was signing into police control under an unrelated charge, with evening curfew, when a numerous plain-clothes police contingent came to his house and arrested him. Unto the threat of raiding his house, where several other people and even children reside, he had no choice but to hand himself in, understanding that he could be linked to a set-up regarding the Lumahue Estate case with this arrest.

The excuse for the arrest was regarding theft at the Santa Rosa Estate in 2012, land usurped by the Settler Rodolfo Luchsinger.

The arrest was carried out by Intelligence officers and functionaries by the Third Division of Padre Las Casas.

The Peñi will face the Temuco Bail Court in the next few hours.
